Rather than get rid of my beloved cat who was having frequent "accidents," I decided to purchase an inexpensive, synthetic rug that could be cleaned easily. The design and colors are rich and accurately pictured on the website, though I did have to go elsewhere to find a photo of a round version to see if i liked the combination of the grid pattern with a circular border.
It's too soon to know how durable the rug is, but it is easy to clean and good-looking.
